Authorities Warn Stores About Selling Ephedrine

Law officials have released a warning to all stores caring medications about the risks of selling ephedrine.

These warnings are to remind owners that it is illegal to sell more than two packages of medication containing ephedrine at the same time.

“It is a law and we’re trying to make sure store owners and their employees know this,” explained Muscle Shoals investigator Lt. Seig Mueller.

Undercover Bust

After authorities at the Muscle Shoals police department received complaints from customers about ephedrine being sold at a local store they joined with members of the Colbert County Drug Task Force and went to the store undercover.

The undercover cops were able to buy four packages of ephedrine at the store.

With more investigation the investigators discovered that a customer from another state had recently purchased a large amount of the drug at the same store.

Ephedrine Laws

Since ephedrine has become known as a key ingredient to make methamphetamine, federal laws have cracked down on its production and marketing.

“The first offense is a misdemeanor, but the second offense is a felony,” reported Mueller in regards to the strict laws that have been enforced on ephedrine sales.
