Canada Warns Caffeine-Ephedrine Combo Danger
Health Canada, the Canadian equivalent of the FDA, issued a warning to consumers this week about the serious and possibly fatal risks posed by taking ephedrine in combination with caffeine products.
When ephedrine is used in conjunction with caffeine or other stimulants there is an increased risk of serious side effects including dizziness, tremors, headaches, heart irregularities, psychosis, seizures, stroke, and heart attack.
Officials say that patients with high blood pressure, heart conditions, and diabetes are at the greatest risk for these caffeine- ephedrine side effects.
While ephedrine has been strictly regulated in the US and restricted in Canada, dangerous ephedrine-containing products are still available through internet sales and other means.
The Canadian agency warned about two products in particular: WestPharma Hydro-Lean and 4Ever Fit Convenience Packs. Both of these products are not authorized for sales in Canada, but have been made available through internet retail or other means.
The agency urges anyone who is taking these products or any other ephedrine-caffeine combination to stop consuming them immediately.
If you have experienced adverse events due to ephedrine use, you may wish to file an adverse events report with the appropriate drug agency (FDA or Health Canada). If you have been injured by ephedrine, you may wish to speak with a qualified attorney who can answer your questions and ensure that your rights are protected. You may be able to seek compensation for your losses and suffering.
